
INTRODUCTION:
The Tanzania Roads Association (TARA), which is also a National Committee of the World Road Association (PIARC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Works in Tanzania, the Tanzania Transportation Technology Transfer (TanT2) Centre, Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), the Roads Fund Board in Tanzania, the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), the Africa Transportation Research Alliance (ATRA),with other local and international institutions, is organizing the Annual Roads Convention (ARC 2026) with a Theme of “Driving Smart Cities through Innovation, Sustainable Mobility and Congestion Solutions” to be held from 1st to 4th December 2026 at New Library Conference Room - University of Dar es Salaam, , Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The convention will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and innovative solutions aimed at advancing smart cities, promoting sustainable mobility, and addressing urban traffic congestion challenges.
MAIN THEME AND SUB-THEMES:
The main Theme of the Annual Roads Convention (ARC 2026) will be “Driving Smart Cities through Innovation, Sustainable Mobility and Congestion Solutions” and will focus on the following sub-themes:
- Smart Cities and Digital Infrastructure – Leveraging digital technologies to enhance urban mobility and infrastructure efficiency
- Sustainable Urban Mobility Systems – Promoting low-carbon, inclusive, and efficient transport solutions
- Traffic Congestion Management and Control – Innovative strategies and technologies for reducing urban traffic congestion
- Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Innovation – Application of smart technologies in traffic operations and infrastructure management
- Climate-Resilient and Green Infrastructure – Designing infrastructure that withstands climate change while minimizing environmental impact
- Road Safety and Urban Mobility Planning – Enhancing safety through integrated and people-centered transport planning
- Public Transport Systems and Policy Reforms – Strengthening public transport through policy, governance, and innovation
- Financing Smart Infrastructure Development – Exploring sustainable financing models for smart cities and transport systems
- Integrated Land Use and Transport Planning – Aligning urban development with efficient transport systems
- Data-Driven Transport Systems – Using data and analytics to improve planning, decision-making, and system performance
